Homework Assignment: PowerPoint Bio

In this class, you will be working in teams with classmates on various projects, including fellow students who are in an Online section (Grad Students across the U.S.), so it will be valuable to have some knowledge about your classmates. I am asking for you to create a PowerPoint file that is a nice Bio about yourself. By using the specifications shared below this video, create a PowerPoint presentation that once exported as a video, will look similar to the one below.

Remember, use as many slides as you need to tell your story. Give us a good PowerPoint Bio about you that includes the information below as a minimum. Download related images that you may not have on your computer to tell the story from freepik.com (use the free images for now). If your final PowerPoint Bio only has 3-4 slides, you need to add more depth to it. Remember to be sure to address all of these questions, even if you do not want to put pictures of certain people, you can discuss them from a general perspective.

  • Where were you born and raised (use pictures to describe all of these aspects)
  • Tell us about your family
  • Tell us about your friends
  • What did you do in high school?
  • Tell us about your hobbies
  • Career goals
  • Share something unique about yourself that others don’t readily know.

Remember to compress your pictures. This is essential to ensure that your PowerPoint file is not so large. That will unnecessarily make your final video larger and slower to view online. Be sure to Compress the pictures in PowerPoint, as shown in class. Make sure to compress your presentation to “E-mail (96 ppi)

Once you submit your Bio in PowerPoint format, Dr. Layfield will review it and make sure that it will properly convert to a video and return to you with any changes needed (or none) so you can then convert the PowerPoint to an MP4 video. YouTube has a built-in free captioning ability, so we will have YouTube add subtitles to your video after you upload it (you can keep it restricted so the video is only available to those that you give the URL). After you have the URL to the video from YouTube, the last part of this lab assignment will be to put the video on a Google web page to turn in for this class.
